Terra Lana
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting is a natural insulator.
Wool's amazing insulation properties have been recognised for centuries by civilisations around the globe. It is the structure of the wool fibre, a natural protein that gives its outstanding insulation performance. The wool fibre is a complex structure, with a natural crimp and resilience, or "springiness" which ensures its loft and ability to entrap air, lasts and lasts. Most individual wool fibres have hollow spaces or medulla which further decreases thermal conductivity or increases its insulation performance.
By using Terra Lana wool batting peak temperatures can be reduced by 2-3 degrees more than mineral fibres.
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting is a natural air- conditioner.
It is a natural property of wool that when the external temperature drops and the amount of moisture in the air increases, then wool absorbs this increase releasing energy. On a hot day wool gives off moisture into the air making the environment cooler. This is why wool feels warm, it is a "woolly sweater" effect. Inert mineral or synthetic fibres do not have this property and therefore do not act in the same way as a barrier to rapid changes in temperature and moisture.
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting is healthy.
Wool is a protein fibre similar in structure to human hair. It is biodegradable and non-toxic. The wool fibres have a much larger diameter of around 30 microns, 2-3 times that of fibreglass, and are therefore too coarse to be inhaled and retained in the body. If they were ingested or inhaled they readily break down into their base proteins and cause no harm...
The wool is blended with a small proportion of a special polyester fibre and heat treated to 140 degrees centigrade to form a dimensionally stable structure...
Terra Lana Wool insulation is non-irritating to the skin and no special procedures or protective clothing is required for regular handling and installation.
More common forms of insulation are manufactured from very fine filaments of glass which can be irritating to the skin and eyes and whose manufacturers advise protective clothing and dust masks be worn when using them.
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting acts as a sound barrier.
Extensive research has concluded that wool can be used in a wide variety of acoustical applications In applications where its vibration isolating properties can be used in conjunction with its sound absorbing properties, such as stud walls, wool can offer significant advantages. The flow resistance of Terra Lana Wool Batting is such that the material provides an equivalent performance to other materials such as noise control block fibreglass.
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting absorbs pollutants.
More and more people are becoming aware of the "sick building syndrome". Formaldehyde is a chemical used in the production of many building materials and is linked to this problem. Tests have shown that a house with wool insulation is able to absorb up to 1000 times the usual amount of formaldehyde present in that house.
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting is environmentally friendly.
Terra Lana wool batting is produced from low grades and recycled wool. It is a renewable and sustainable resource. Wool is completely biodegradable and does not release small broken fragments into the air around us.
Terra Lana wool batting is one of the ECOSPHERE range of products - taking little energy to produce and using recycled materials.
Because Terra Lana Wool Batting is value for money.
Terra Lana wool batting can be more expensive than its fibreglass equivalent, but given its lifetime of outstanding performance and the satisfaction of using a natural, healthy, environmentally secure product, Terra Lana Wool Batting has a value far greater than its initial cost.
